Game
Introduction

"Hardspace Shipbreaker Analog Adaptation" is a strategic tabletop game developed during Sheridan College's design week. The game challenges players to dismantle a spaceship within a set time frame, carefully managing explosive components to maximize points. Mimicking the pressure and tactics of the original video game, this analog adaptation invites players into a race against time, combining strategy and risk management in a compelling board game format.

About the game

This adaptation brings the original video game to life in a tabletop, featuring physical cards that represent ship components, an astronaut token for movement, and a game timer to heighten tension and engagement. The goal of the player is to strive and efficiently dismantle the spaceship, sorting components to accumulate points while avoiding explosive parts that could abruptly end the game.

Concept Development

The development of "Hardspace Shipbreaker Analog Adaptation" began with team-building and a thorough analysis of the original video game to identify key mechanics, guiding our initial concept development through affinity diagrams. This foundation led to an iterative design process, characterized by continuous peer feedback and multiple prototyping phases—from low to high fidelity—which refined our game mechanics focused on strategic urgency and risk management. These efforts culminated in a final presentation and comprehensive playtesting during a program-wide event, ensuring our adaptation authentically translated the core elements of strategic spaceship disassembly and explosive component management into a compelling analog gameplay experience.
